As one of seven, my childhood holidays were spent in Sidmouth in Devon in a selfcatering flat. The M4 and M5 weren yet open, which meant we meandered our way to the West Country in an ancient Hillman Minx, stopping to look at churches and eat our sandwiches along the way.
